In early 2010, I started a Facebook Campaign entitled "We Beelieve: Charlotte...take back your Hornets!" that had the hair-brained mission of reclaiming the 'Hornets' brand for the city of Charlotte's National Basketball Association franchise. In 2012, I composed a petition that garnered thousands of signatures in support of the Cause. Alongside some friends I met along the way, a genuine grassroots Movement was mounted that espoused the virtues of our little pipe dream everywhere from ESPN to the New York Times to the Associated Press...and everywhere in between. We, alongside tens of thousands of our closest friends, organized massive rallies at Charlotte Bobcats games. We inundated local/regional/national airwaves. Then, something wild and wonderful happened...
May 21, 2013, 3 years and change after the fans' side of the campaign began, Charlotte Bobcats' owner Michael Jordan announced his intentions of rebranding his franchise as the 'Charlotte Hornets' effective as of the 2014-15 NBA season.
And the city of Charlotte wept with joy.
